We actively install brickslip tiles in and around London and Hertfordshire.
Brickslips are a wonderful way to add character and an authentic period style to your property.
They come in many different textures and tones and can be used as a feature wall or fireplace breast. They can also be used more practically to disguise ugly extensions etc to blend with the surroundings.
In the project below a developer used them to blend a block built extension with the Victorian built houses around it. The Brickslips themselves where made from reclaimed bricks and so achieved a great result!
Word of warning
Brickslips are basically tiles and subject to the forces that make tiles fail after a certain period of time. If you are using them they really do need an experienced installer. They are heavy and so 100% adhesion with the proper materials, know-how and preparation is imperative. In an exterior installation they can fall and injure someone so you need a proper installer.
Elements of bricklaying
To install these properly requires an understanding of some bricklaying elements. On a more complex installation they dont just fit with full slips above windows and perfect halves where there should be etc. They need to be adjusted , manipulated and set out similar to how a bricklayer would set out the brickwork for a structure. They also need to be pointed which is (in our exp) out of the scope of a standard tilers skill set.
